Fjellborg Vikings

Astrid's Textile Arts:

My summer socks! These are the socks Astrid wears in the summer time. They are made with a lighter stitch (asle) which keeps her feet cushioned in her shoes, yet helps her feet not to sweat!

Gullveigs socksAstrid made these socks with her bone needle for another viking lady named Gullveig. Gullveig promises a beautiful sprang-woven hairnet in return! These socks are made with Oslo stitch. All of Astrid's socks are made with the 'norwegian all-around-heel.' The Norwegians would like to claim the method but Astrid swears it's a Swedish method! Of course, Norway and Sweden are one and the same in the viking age, so what does it matter?

Roric's socks with an oslo stitch. Here are Rorics socks- he has decided he will work on shrinking them to fit his feet on his own. A cat surveys the work. (Leave the bit about the cat out if it's inauthentic for a viking to own a cat!)

Roric's socks with an oslo stitch. These are a pair of socks Astrid made for her nephew. Aren't they cute?

Farman's socks Astrid made these socks for Farman in exchange for one of his leather water bottles. These socks are nalbound in York stitch. York stitch will help Farman's feet breathe easy as he travels.

Lodin's socks on Lodin's feet!Astrid made these socks for Lodin in exchange for a knife that he made. They are stitched with Oslo stitch. Don't Lodin's feet look handsome in these socks?

My second pair with an oslo stitch Here are Astrid's first finished pair. This was before they shrunk so small that Astrid can't wear them anymore. Even our youngest member, Agnar, can't wear them!

Tablet woven belt Here is a close-up of Astrid's belt. It is tablet woven of wool yarns. Astrid would be happy to explain how tablet weaving works if you are interested!
