Fjellborg Vikings Title

Lodin's Forged Ironwork:

More Fire Strikers More Fire Strikers Most of my firestrikers have been given as gifts to members of Fjellborg, to suppliment their educational materials and for use in public demonstrations. We have he had a "Fire Starting" workshop, learning to strike flint and steel to catch a spark in tinder. Those who made fire, were able to keep their strikers and flints.

To the right is an artifact dug up by an archeological team. I have not seen the cleaned up artifact but in the center of the picture on the left, you see my interpretation. I keep this one for myself.

More Fire Strikers  While forging other projects I often have small projects along side the centeral purpose for firing the forge. These Thor's hammers are a fun project, the neck ring is based on an actual find. It would be worn with the end curls on the back of your neck. Many iron "torc" style rings have been found with pendents including miniture sythes, swords, axes and spears. Each attributed to various Nordic deities.

Other projects include items like "S" hooks, used to hang pots and cauldrons over fires.

Penannular broaches Then to the right are some iron pennannular broches I forged, copies of cast bronze artifacts.

Below are a collection of key I made, not associated with locks, made as ornaments for ladies presentations. Women of staus would wear the keys to their house and chests on their person, along with snips, needle cases and various other daily work tools associated with their social standing.
More Fire Strikers More Fire Strikers Here are some of my earlier projects after I got my new forge up and running and started playing around, making several sizes of iron penannular broaches ,and fire strikers.
More Fire Strikers
And a passel more. All of those wound up as gifts! Now to the right, I made some arrowheads and you also see a knife blade with a narrow tang. It will have a wooden handle forced onto the tang by heating the tang red hot and forcing it onto the shaft! You can see some finished knives in another part of my gallery.

My new snips! I tried my hand a making a pair of snips. They work pretty well. Quite an education getting the blades right but now you will be able to see them used in camp. Then there are always more fire strikers to be made, arrowheads and camp knives! The knife in this picture can be seen in the previous picture without it's wooden handle.
