Our fighting separates into two categories, scripted "stage combat" where highly trained combatants are doing demonstrations for the public in what appears to be a spontaneous battle but in fact is very diligently rehearsed and trained for. These members may be without ANY armor at all, depending with their personal co-training and level of skills.
The second style involves much more armor and different training. Refer to the national combat standard used by The Vikings-UK in the links above. Live steel combatants must be 18 years of age. Other forms of combat are available to those under the age limit, such as using wooden wasters, shini (Japanese bamboo practice swords, not public demo's) or boffers for the very young. Only period accurate weapons and skill will be used in public events. As you acquire training and skills, your instructor will provide you with a list of "must have" items so you may participate.

Study the links provided by our group. Look at the galleries and photos of the gear and clothing of the national and international groups. DON'T go out an buy a flurry of fantasy gear and show up with helmets with horns and looking like some video game "Viking". We will congratulate you on your artfulness of costuming and send you off to the nearest LARP (Live Action Role Player) group BUT you will not be permitted to play with us in that gear. Sorry! We are serious about accurate portrayal. So when in doubt about making a purchase, ask a senior member for a review on the item in question. (We all have items that we love to hang on our walls but won't be using them at Fjellborg's demo's.) Make this experience fun by understanding and embracing what we are trying to do.
