Ryan has a solid interest in blacksmithing and is pursuing the craft with enthusiasm. He's purchasing his own equipment, to set up his own shop. Until then, he practices on anvils of others. The iron "s" hook is used to hang about anything imaginable, from cookware to armor. It's a good utilitarian project to start with.
As a young man in the community, having come from a poor household, this sax (or knife) is crude but effective. Arinbjorn know doubt will acquire a better blade as his personal wealth increases... a benefit of going a Viking... but until then his sax is his daily companion.
Ryan forged his sax from an old "cold chisel" and it has a nice temper, reflected by the blue color.
